Yonex Denmark Open: Lee Chong Wei Advances to Quarterfinals

Thursday saw more exciting matches at the Yonex Denmark Open as the tournament enters its second half.

World No. 1 Players Triumph in Singles

Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10 LCW, Yonex Shoes) is into the men’s singles quarterfinal after securing a strong victory over India’s Prannoy H. S. Chong Wei dominated in game 1, drawing on his well of experience and playing with great finesse. He seized the lead after grabbing his first point, gradually widening the gap to win by an 11-point margin. Chong Wei’s Indian opponent would put forth a spirited challenge in game 2, but the Malaysian World No. 1  consistently managed to remain one step ahead, winning with a final score of 21-10 22-20.

Women’s World No. 1 Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEEDPOWER CUSHION 02 LADIES) also advanced to the quarterfinal, coming back from a game down to defeat Korean Na Young Kim. The Spaniard’s characteristic tenacity won her the match, 19-21 21-15 21-19.

European Teams Remain Strong in Doubles

Mathias Boe (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION COMFORT TOUR) and Carsten Mogensen (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 65) advanced into the quarterfinals in front of their local crowd in men’s doubles. The pair overpowered the Chinese team of Fu Haifeng and Xu Chen in a clash of hard smashes. The Danes maintained a mostly un-broken lead, winning with a final score of 21-10 21-19. They will face 2016 Yonex All England champions Vladimir Ivanov (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION COMFORT TOUR) and Ivan Sozonov (VOLTRIC 80 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 65), who also prevailed in a faceoff between east and west. The Russians went head-to-head Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan, effectively utilizing the power of their meteoritic smashes to win 21-10 18-21 21-17.

Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 65) and Christinna Pedersen (DUORA 7POWER CUSHION 02 LTD) continued their steady and confident advance in women’s doubles. They picked up yet another victory in under 30 minutes, breezing past the Swiss-Malay team of Nadia Fankhauser and Sannatasah Saniru, 21-15 21-3. Meanwhile,Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, Yonex Shoes) and Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, Yonex Shoes) advanced in mixed doubles, prevailing over local favorites Mathias Christiansen and Sara Thygesen, 21-15 21-17.
