Wimbledon 2018: Kerber into her second Wimbledon final in three years as she reaches for her third Grand Slam title!

13 July 2018

London — 11th-seeded Angelique Kerber (GER) fended off 12th seed and 2017 French Open Champion Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at Wimbledon on Thursday, booking her ticket into the final.

Ostapenko came to the match with her signature big hits, and the first set was initially tied at 3-3. But Kerber’s consistency and experience carried the day, and in just over an hour she was able to put away the 21-year-old Latvian. “Being here again, that was a goal when I start this year … playing good in the Grand Slams, and reaching the finals again. It's a great feeling,” she said at the post-match press conference. The former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion will now face Serena Williams in a rematch of the 2016 Wimbledon final. Kerber also reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open and the quarterfinals at Roland Garros this year.

In women’s doubles, Nicole Melichar (USA) and Alicja Rosolska (POL) both advance along with their partners to the semi-finals. Melichar is also in the semi-finals in mixed doubles.

And in juniors, six boys and five girls from Team Yonex made the best 16. This made Yonex the No. 1 brand among the best 16*, as popularity continues to grow amongst junior players. Mu Tao (CHN) in men's singles and Xiyu Wang (CHN) in women's singles advanced to the final 4 on the 12th. The world waits for the next Yonex stars.
